Biography

Patricia Curtis Pfitsch was born February 24, 1948 in St. Louis, MO. She went to Knox College and received her B.A. in 1970. Pfitsch went on to receive her M.A. from the University of Georgia in 1974. She married John Hollis Pfitsch (a philosopher & teacher) on December 27, 1969 and had three children: Hollis, Woody & Jane. Pfitsch started as a freelance writer in 1970 but found that she would prefer to be an instructor and librarian at Carl Sandburg Community College in Galesburg, IL. Which she did from 1978 to 1980. Pfitsch currently lives in Gray Mills, WI and is an instructor at the Institute of Children’s Literature.

Pfitsch has received many awards for her literature, but here a just a few. In 1998 Pfitsch received the Juvenile Fiction Award for Keeper of the Light. In 1999 she received the Arthur Tofte Juvenile Fiction Award for The Deeper Song. Pfitsch was honored a second time in 2003 with the Arthur Tofte Juvenile Fiction Award for Riding the Flume.
